October 2008 - Is your site Compliant with PCI DSS v1.2

From 1st October 2008 compliance with the new PCI DSS v1.2 standards is compulsory for most companies taking Internet, EPOS or traditional Credit & Debit Card payments.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a mandatory security standard delivered by both Visa and MasterCard for the protection and securing of card payment data. PCI DSS affects Acquirers, Merchants and their agents (any third party used to store, process or transmit card data).

Visa International and MasterCard Worldwide, along with American Express, Discover Financial Services and JCB, founded the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, with the new express mission of delivering a broad adoption of the PCI DSS.

We can offer a wide range of Consultancy Services for clients processing under 20,000 Credit & Debit Card transactions per year, please contact us for more details.

June 2008 - New Google Adwords Campaign Implemented

What is Google AdWords?

No doubt you have used Google at some point or another, when you perform a search you will notice that on the right hand side you get 'Sponsored Links'. These are links that someone has set up with Google in order to promote their website without relying on natural search engine rankings.

Where do we come in?

It may seem simple at a glance but there are multiple factors to take into consideration when setting up Google AdWords. TSG set up the initial campaign with Google for you to ensure your keywords and phrases are optimised in the best way possible.

May 2008 - Moving to MySQL for Web Projects

Moved from where?

At TSG we continue to use the best available technology where possible for every project and alot of these would use MS SQL, even for smaller projects. After extensive testing of the MySQL Community Server and its features we are now implementing this open source database as our core standard database for small to medium web projects.

What about the larger projects?

In the meantime we will continue to use the MS SQL Server technology for larger projects due to its reliability whilst we are testing the MySQL Enterprise Server, watch this space.

Januray 2007 - Website Requirements

Is your website legal?

From the 1st January 2007, Limited Companies in the UK must include certain regulatory information on their websites and in their email footers or they will breach the Companies Act and risk a fine.

Every company should list its company registration number, place of registration, and registered office address on its website as a result of an update to the legislation of 1985. The information, which must be in legible characters, should also appear on order forms and in emails. Such information is already required on "business letters" but the duty is being extended to websites, order forms and electronic documents.

The change is being made by a Statutory Instrument that is expected to be passed on Thursday to implement a European law, the First Company Law Amendment Directive, into UK law.

The same information is also required to be shown on the footer of all emails sent by a Limited Company.

All websites produced by ourselves since January 2007 comply with this new legislation, does yours?
