Accessibility on your site is a really important factor to take into consideration. This can cover obvious things like navigation and site structure but what a lot of websites miss out are the more key aspects which can see your site being inaccessible to a minor percentage of internet users.
But who are the minor percentage that are unable to use your site correctly? It can range from disabled users to a user who uses a browser different to the one that the website was tested on. Below are some examples of these users:
- Colour Blind Users - If your site uses hyperlinks with colour, unless they are clearly underlined or are obviously stated as a link these may be invisible to these users. All our links are underlined or stated as a link if it is contained on an image and we check the site using VisCheck to see how the site looks to particular kinds of colour blindness.
- Blind Users - You may think blind people are unable to use the internet, but there is alot of software that allows this user to navigate the internet. By correctly using certain HTML 'Tags' this software reads out the content of the site for these users, we ensure this is the case.
- Movement - If a user is unable/has difficulty in moving a mouse then they may find moving around your site difficult. TSG Creative use keyboard shortcuts on new websites so they do not have to rely on the mouse.
- Vision - These users have difficulty reading small text and if your site is full of it, it could lead them away, we change the site's design so the user can freely change the text size using their browser keeping your site's design in tact.
- Text-Only - Some browsers are text-only, this means no exact structure, no images etc. By using CSS and correct HTML 'Tags' where appropriate we ensure these browsers can use your site. We also check with these browsers as this is how most search engines would see your pages and this allows us to optimise your site further for search engines as well.
- In-Compatible Browsers - There are a large number of internet browsers out there and whilst most web companies around will try to test in as many as possible, it is very difficult to test in all of them. This is difficult as some browsers will display your site in different ways and some will not have the same functionality as the rest of them (i.e. some do not have JavaScript capability). This can result in certain areas of your site looking inconsistent or being inaccessible. By ensuring we design your site in CSS and also ensuring that no one technology is dependant to run for a particular function of your site we are able to keep the site accessible in all browsers without the need for extensive testing.
TSG Creative take these users and other varied accessibility techniques into consideration when designing your site and provide an 'Accessibility Statement' on your site as well allowing users to see and understand why they have been used giving your company a more professional and caring outlook.
We also test the site against the World Wide Consortium's various validators against XHTML and CSS ensuring that your site adheres to current accessibility guidelines, we then put the passed logos on your site to display this so users see your site as more professional.
